The Udzungwa Mountains National Park(UMNP) with peaks that sandwich the lodge was opened in 1992 by a Dutch Prince Bernard, it covers an area of 1990 sq. kilometres and hosts unique large numbers of up to 300 animal, 2500 plant, 400 bird and 250 butterfly species. So basically the lodge has been strategically located on the slopes of UMNP so as to serve clients for Sanje Falls, mountain hiking which are only 3 km from the starting points and excursions to Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi & Ruaha National parks.
