Nairobi National Park in Nairobi City (117 sq km) was established in 1946, and is world famous for being the only National Park to be found within a capital city in the whole world. Being a mere 8 miles from the city's centre (Nairobi - Kenya), the parks vegetation is primarily savannah and plains and has areas of highland forest, acacia and riverine environments.

It hosts over 100 animal species such as the rhino, lions, cheetahs (with an exception of the elephant) and an amazing 500 plus bird species including the helmeted guinea fowl, francolins, kori, white and black-bellied bustards, quelea turacos, mousebirds and ostriches among others. The park also hosts game birds and birds of prey.

Altitude: 1533 to 1760 m [5025 - 5770 ft].

Road : 15 minute drive from the city centre and airport

Location : The outskirts of the city towards the South.

Animals : Flamingoes, pelicans, hippo, rhino, reedbuck, giraffe

Vegetation : Open savannah and plains with areas of highland forest, acacia and riverine environments .

Birds : Helmeted Guinea, ostriches & over 450 other bird species

Facilities : No camping or accommodation places due to its proximity to the city, but has six picnic sites

Attractions: The over 400 bird species to be found, game walk.

Climate: Dry and wet during the rainy season.
